About Educating
Providing education to children of slave families and to children of families that have been rescued.
Why A School?
The families trapped in generational debt and indentured servitude often have to make a choice between food and education for their children. They make the only reasonable choice, food. Because of this their children enter adulthood without the ability to read, write, or do math. This restricts their opportunities and increases the likelihood that they, too, end up back in slavery.
About The School
The church in Sahiwal has started a school for the children of current slaves and recently rescued families. The school is a partial boarding school. The children of currently enslaved families are boarded at the school and the children of recently rescued children stay at home and commute to school. The school houses about 35 slave children with another 10 commuting.
The student’s ages range from 7 years old to 14 years old. Because this is the first opportunity for education for these students the older students are also learning the basics of reading and writing in an attempt to catch up to their free peers.
The school teaches math, and Bible in Urdu. It teaches writing in both Urdu and English. Urdu so that they can function in Pakistani society, and English so that they have a valuable skill for future employers.
